The recovery of charred remains of a stray dog near Yadgar Chowk in Jabalpur has sparked outrage among animal lovers, who allege the animal may have been set on fire before police could conduct a medico-legal investigation. The burnt carcass was found in an open garbage pile in the Cantonment police station area on Friday.
Activists Demand FIR for Animal Cruelty
Activists suspect that drunkards or miscreants may have burnt the dog alive and have demanded the registration of an FIR for animal cruelty. They alleged that before police could begin a preliminary inquiry, Cantonment Board workers removed the carcass from the spot, complicating efforts to determine the exact cause of death.
Police Response and Investigation
Cantonment police station in-charge Pushpendra Patel said that police had sought details from the Cantonment Board regarding the carcass. “Once the remains are located, a panchnama and post-mortem will be conducted. Further action will depend on the autopsy findings,” he stated. Police have assured that an FIR will be registered if the post-mortem confirms that the dog died after being set on fire.
Protests Outside Police Station
The incident triggered protests outside the police station, with activists demanding strict action against the perpetrators. Animal rights groups have expressed their outrage and called for a thorough investigation to ensure justice for the animal. Police are currently awaiting the post-mortem report before proceeding with legal action.
This incident has once again highlighted the issue of animal cruelty in the region, with activists urging authorities to take stricter measures to prevent such acts in the future.
