Nagpur Medical College Hosts 18th Annual Blood Donation Camp for Childhood Cancer Awareness

In a heartfelt initiative blending compassion with medical necessity, the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Nagpur organized a significant blood donation camp on Saturday. The event was strategically held at the Futala Lake premises to commemorate International Childhood Cancer Day, with organizers deliberately choosing Valentine's Day to amplify themes of love, humanity, and social responsibility.

Decades of Dedication to Pediatric Cancer Patients

This year marked the 18th consecutive edition of this vital community drive, underscoring a long-standing commitment to supporting pediatric cancer treatments. During the camp, more than 300 units of blood were successfully collected, providing crucial resources for young patients battling cancer. The initiative highlighted the indispensable role of blood donations in oncology care, particularly for children whose treatments often require frequent transfusions.

Under the guidance of Dean Dr Raj Gajbhiye and Associate Dean Dr Devendra Mahore, the camp was formally inaugurated by Medical Superintendent Dr Avinash Gawande. The ceremony was attended by Head of Department Dr Ashokkumar Diwan, with Social Service Superintendent Vikram Lanjewar playing a pivotal role in coordinating and managing the entire programme.

A Message of Love and Lifesaving Commitment

With the powerful slogan, "A pledge to donate, a mission to save lives – every home should have a blood donor," the event transcended mere celebration to become a symbol of collective compassion. It inspired citizens to contribute meaningfully to society, reinforcing the idea that acts of kindness can have profound impacts on healthcare outcomes.

The camp saw participation from numerous medical professionals, including Dr Shailendra Jambhulkar, Dr Vijay Mohabiya, and Blood Bank in-charge Dr Pratik Chide. Additionally, several social workers and community leaders lent their support, such as Jagjit Singh, Dnyaneshwar Dada Rakshak of Gurudev Seva Mandal, Purushottam Bhosale, and Pravin Kamble of Pravin Construction.

Volunteer Efforts and Collaborative Success

A dedicated team of volunteers, including Harshal Jambhule, Apurva Chaugule, Ashish Fulzhele, Prashant Dhakane, Nagsen Badge, Saurabh Gajghate, Pritam Meshram, Siddharth Wankhede, Pranay Walke, Saurabh Gude, and Darshan Chaure, actively supported the drive, ensuring its smooth operation. The successful execution was further bolstered by the collective efforts of the Students' Council of the Medical College, Dr Himanshu Piprikar, the entire Blood Bank team of GMCH Nagpur, and the organization CanKids–KidsCan.

This annual event not only addresses immediate medical needs but also fosters a culture of altruism and community engagement, setting a benchmark for healthcare initiatives across the region.
