MLA Kamath Demands Justice for Unpaid Health Workers in Mangaluru

Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath has launched a sharp attack on the ruling government. He highlighted the desperate situation faced by contract-based healthcare workers and ASHA workers in the region. These dedicated individuals have worked tirelessly day and night for three to four months without receiving their salaries.

Inauguration of Renovated Health Centre in Padil

The MLA made these strong remarks on Wednesday. He was speaking after inaugurating the newly renovated Primary Health Centre at Padil. This facility falls within the limits of the Mangaluru City Corporation.

"What does it mean if there is no salary for work done honestly?" Kamath questioned. He urged the ruling government to show some basic humanity. The MLA expressed deep disappointment that such a crisis has occurred. He pointed out the irony that the district's in-charge minister is also the health minister.

Improved Facilities for Local Communities

The renovation of the Padil Primary Health Centre was made possible using the MLA's local area development fund. A new room was constructed and the ceiling was well-equipped. These upgrades aim to provide better treatment facilities for all patients.

Kamath expressed great joy that the centre was inaugurated by Latha. She is a local resident and was also his school teacher. The MLA stated that this health centre will serve a large population. Approximately 30,000 to 40,000 people from six wards are expected to benefit.

The benefiting wards include Alape, Kannur, Maroli, Bajal, Shakthinagar, and Kulasekhar. Kamath also thanked MRPL for their support. The company responded to their request by providing necessary tables and chairs for the centre. The MLA assured that further support will be provided if needed in the future.

Local Leaders Attend the Event

The inauguration event saw the presence of several former corporators. Roopashri Poojary, Chandravathi Vishwanath, Shobha Poojary, and Kishore Kottari were among those who attended. Their presence underscored the local importance of the renovated health facility.

The MLA's comments have brought renewed attention to the plight of healthcare workers. Their unpaid salaries remain a critical issue demanding immediate government action.
