KGMU Trauma Centre Implements Free Diagnostic Testing in Critical First Day
In a significant move to enhance emergency medical care, the trauma centre at King George's Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow has announced that all patients admitted will receive free diagnostic tests during the crucial first 24 hours of their admission. This initiative is specifically designed to reduce treatment delays and alleviate the inconvenience faced by patients and their families during medical emergencies.
Eliminating Queues and Streamlining Processes
Previously, the system required patients or their attendants to deposit fees separately for essential pathology and radiology tests. This often involved standing in long queues, which not only caused frustration but also wasted precious time that could be critical for initiating treatment. The new protocol marks a complete overhaul of this cumbersome procedure.
Under the revamped system, an advance amount is now deposited directly into the patient's Unique Health Identification (UHID) account upon admission. Investigation charges for diagnostic tests are then deducted automatically from this account. This seamless process ensures that tests are conducted without any administrative delays, allowing medical staff to focus solely on patient care.
Accelerating Treatment and Providing Relief
Dr. Premraj Singh, the CMS of the trauma centre, emphasized the importance of this change. He stated that most essential diagnostic tests are completed within the first 24 hours of admission. This timely completion enables doctors to start appropriate treatment protocols much sooner, which is vital in trauma cases where every minute counts.
The benefits extend beyond medical efficiency. Patients arriving from various parts of Uttar Pradesh, often in distress, now experience immediate relief from financial and logistical burdens. Families no longer need to navigate complex payment systems during stressful times, allowing them to concentrate on supporting their loved ones.
This policy is expected to significantly improve patient outcomes by ensuring that diagnostic bottlenecks do not hinder emergency interventions. It represents a proactive step by KGMU towards modernizing healthcare delivery and making critical services more accessible and patient-friendly in one of Uttar Pradesh's premier medical institutions.
