Kerala Chief Minister Inaugurates State-of-the-Art Cancer Centre Building in Thiruvananthapuram
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the new multi-storey building at the Thiruvananthapuram Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) on Monday, marking a significant advancement in Kerala's healthcare infrastructure. Health Minister Veena George emphasized that RCC, a source of pride for the state in cancer treatment, is achieving another milestone in its development with this inauguration.
Enhancing Cancer Treatment Quality and Accessibility
The health department is actively working to improve the quality of cancer treatment and provide modern care at reduced costs for patients. Recent initiatives include the establishment of the Cochin Cancer Centre and the elevation of the Malabar Cancer Centre (MCC) to a postgraduate institute. Advanced treatment facilities, such as robotic surgery, have been implemented at both RCC and MCC, with cancer treatment services expanded across medical colleges throughout the state.
Addressing Space Constraints with New Infrastructure
The newly constructed 14-storey building at RCC addresses long-standing space constraints, offering a significant boost to the centre's capabilities. Built at a cost of Rs 242 crore and covering an area of 3,30,117 square feet, this structure incorporates cutting-edge facilities designed to enhance patient care and treatment outcomes.
Advanced Facilities and Patient-Centric Services
The multi-storey building will provide state-of-the-art services for cancer patients, including:
- Radiotherapy machines for precise treatment
- Nuclear medicine facilities, such as iodine therapy wards
- A dedicated bone marrow transplant unit
- Modern operation theatres and intensive care units
- A specialized leukaemia ward and comprehensive blood bank
- An advanced microbiology department for diagnostic support
In addition to existing wards, the facility will feature new pay wards and general wards, along with an additional 200 beds to accommodate more patients. Two levels of parking facilities have been arranged to ensure convenience for visitors and staff.
Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Operations
The new building is designed with sustainability in mind, maximizing the use of solar energy and adhering to green protocols. Pollution control systems are also in place to minimize environmental impact, aligning with Kerala's commitment to eco-friendly healthcare infrastructure.
This development represents a crucial step forward in Kerala's efforts to combat cancer, providing enhanced access to advanced treatment options while prioritizing patient comfort and environmental sustainability.
