Kanpur Health Department Launches Major Crackdown on Illegal Hospitals Post-Kidney Scandal
In a decisive move following the shocking kidney scandal in Kanpur, the health department has initiated a rigorous crackdown targeting illegal hospitals operating in the Kalyanpur area. This operation underscores the authorities' commitment to enforcing medical regulations and ensuring patient safety.
Raids Conducted with Police Support Under ACMO Leadership
On Monday, a coordinated raid was executed at several hospitals with the support of police forces, led by Additional Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) Ramit Rastogi. The crackdown aimed to inspect and address unregistered and non-compliant medical facilities that have been operating without proper authorization.
Three Hospitals Sealed and Notices Issued During Operation
During the extensive operation, three hospitals were immediately sealed due to severe violations, while others received formal notices demanding responses. The health department's team first targeted Gold Hospital, which was sealed for lacking any registration. Subsequently, at MP Hospital located on Naya Shivli Road, services were discovered to be functioning without registration, despite previous actions to seal its operation theatre. Authorities directed the hospital to relocate patients within three days before proceeding with its sealing.
Serious Irregularities Uncovered at Residential Hospital
A particularly alarming case was found at a hospital operating from a residential house, where an operation theatre contained a bed and an unauthorized medical store. Initially, orders were given to seal only the operation theatre, but after on-site disputes, the entire facility was sealed to prevent further risks.
Notices Issued to Hospitals with Absent Doctors and Irregularities
MJ Hospital received a notice when no duty doctor was present during the inspection. Meanwhile, inspections at Kanha, Lakshmi, and Ganesh Hospital revealed satisfactory arrangements. However, irregularities were identified at Magns Hospital and Veda Hospital, leading to notices requiring responses within three days. The health department has warned that strict action will follow if satisfactory explanations are not provided.
ACMO Ramit Rastogi Emphasizes Ongoing Campaign Against Illegal Hospitals
ACMO Ramit Rastogi emphasized that this crackdown is part of a continuous campaign against illegal hospitals, intensified after the kidney scandal. He confirmed that three hospitals have been sealed and others issued notices, with further actions planned based on ongoing investigations. This initiative highlights the department's proactive stance in regulating healthcare standards and protecting public health in Kanpur.
