AIIMS Rae Bareli Celebrates Historic First Graduation Ceremony

Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava emphasized that a healthy India forms the essential foundation for achieving the ambitious vision of Viksit Bharat. She made these remarks while addressing the inaugural graduation ceremony at AIIMS Rae Bareli on Wednesday, where she highlighted the significant advancements being made in healthcare delivery across the nation.

Milestone Achievement for the Prestigious Institute

The landmark event celebrated the graduation of the institute's very first MBBS batch from the 2019–20 academic session, alongside postgraduate resident doctors from the January 2023 batch. A total of 48 MBBS students and 25 PG residents were conferred their hard-earned degrees during the ceremony. Dr. Harsh Kushwaha, who achieved the highest academic standing in the MBBS programme, was honored with the prestigious gold medal for his outstanding performance.

Digital Healthcare Initiatives Take Center Stage

Secretary Srivastava specifically commended AIIMS Rae Bareli for its instrumental role in implementing several flagship government healthcare schemes. She pointed to the remarkable success of the e-Sanjeevani telemedicine platform, which has facilitated over 200,000 tele-consultations, and the PM-JAY and PM-ABHIM initiatives. Notably, more than 100,000 ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) registrations have been completed through the institute's efforts.

Srivastava underscored that digital health records and telemedicine services are absolutely crucial for expanding healthcare access to remote populations and for enhancing evidence-based policy planning at the national level.

Inauguration of Advanced Medical Facilities

Prior to the graduation ceremony, the Health Secretary officially inaugurated three state-of-the-art medical facilities at the AIIMS Rae Bareli hospital, marking a significant upgrade in its diagnostic and treatment capabilities:

  • PACS and Forensic Radiology Services: The new Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) is designed to drastically accelerate access to radiology reports, including X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs. It will enable seamless digital sharing of patient records and significantly strengthen medico-legal documentation processes.
  • Video-Urodynamics Facility: Housed within the paediatric surgery department, this advanced facility is expected to greatly improve the diagnosis and clinical management of complex urinary disorders in children, including those related to neurological conditions.
  • New Endoscopy Unit: This unit will provide faster, more precise diagnostic services, help reduce overall treatment costs for patients, and offer a safer procedural option for elderly individuals and other high-risk patient groups.

Leadership Emphasizes Holistic Health Development

Institute President, Padma Shri awardee Dr. R V Ramani, extended his heartfelt congratulations to the new graduates. He administered the solemn Charak oath, reminding them of their ethical responsibilities as medical professionals. Dr. Ramani stressed that comprehensive health development is fundamentally integral to broader social progress and national well-being.

Executive Director Dr. Amita Jain presented the institute's annual report during the event. She outlined ambitious future plans aimed at further strengthening research infrastructure and fostering academic excellence at AIIMS Rae Bareli, ensuring it remains at the forefront of medical education and innovation.
