A local court in Vijayawada has sentenced a man to eight months of rigorous imprisonment in a case related to illegal possession of ganja under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The chief judicial magistrate judge, Justice B Radha Rani, pronounced the verdict after the accused, Mudraboyina Nagaraju, 27, a resident of Vambay Colony, was found guilty of the crime.
Case Background
According to police, the case dates back to February 4, 2022, when the I-Town police, acting on credible information, apprehended Nagaraju near Gadda Bomma Centre within their jurisdiction. During the search, officials seized 500 grams of ganja from his possession. A case was registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and after completion of the investigation, the accused was arrested and produced before the court.
Accused's Criminal History
Police stated that Nagaraju was addicted to ganja from a young age and was allegedly involved in multiple theft cases in the I-Town and II-Town police station limits. The court's decision serves as a stern warning against drug-related offenses in the region.
