Support Group for Parents of Diabetic Children in Lucknow

Lucknow: Doctors at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) organized a support group programme on Sunday for parents whose children suffer from lifelong diseases such as Type 1 diabetes. The event was jointly organized by the departments of endocrinology and paediatric endocrinology, specifically targeting adolescents living with Type 1 diabetes.

Focus on Emotional and Mental Health

The programme emphasized the emotional and mental health challenges faced by both the child and the family while dealing with such chronic conditions. Dr. Romil Saini from the psychiatry department addressed issues like stress, burnout, and coping mechanisms, providing valuable insights to the families. Diabetes educators also shared practical guidance on managing the condition during school, exercise, and daily life activities.

Shared Experiences and Support

Individuals living with Type 1 diabetes shared their personal experiences to encourage children and parents alike. Around 50 families attended the programme, which aimed to foster a sense of community and reduce feelings of isolation. Doctors highlighted that support groups offer crucial emotional support and help families feel less isolated while managing lifelong conditions.
