Heroic Son Injured While Saving Mother from Devastating House Fire in Ponda
A dramatic rescue unfolded in Ponda taluka on Friday morning when a 35-year-old man suffered burn injuries while saving his bedridden mother from their burning house. The incident occurred at the family home in Galshire, Kavlem, destroying the structure but leaving the residents with a story of courage and survival.
The Morning Blaze and Desperate Rescue
According to sources, the fire broke out while 69-year-old Manarathi and her younger son Amit were inside the house. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, but neighbors quickly alerted Gauresh Saju Naik, the elder son, about the emergency.
When Gauresh arrived at the scene, flames had already engulfed the entire house. Without hesitation, he jumped into the burning structure to reach his bedridden mother, who was trapped inside. Despite the intense heat and smoke, he managed to carry her to safety.
Injuries and Immediate Aftermath
Both Gauresh and his mother sustained significant burn injuries during the rescue. The younger son, Amit, who was outside the house when the fire started, escaped unharmed. The injured mother and son were immediately rushed to the Goa Medical College (GMC), where they are currently undergoing treatment for their burns.
The central Ponda fire station responded promptly after being alerted about the incident. Firefighters rushed to the site and successfully doused the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to neighboring properties.
Property Damage Assessment
Ponda station fire officer Rahul Desai provided details about the extent of the damage. "There was no major loss since the house contained only grocery items, utensils, and daily-use clothes," Desai stated. While the house was completely destroyed, the family's essential belongings were limited to basic household items.
The incident highlights both the dangers of residential fires and the extraordinary lengths family members will go to protect their loved ones. The community has been shaken by the event but inspired by Gauresh's selfless act of bravery in risking his own safety to save his mother.
