The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for 10 districts in Uttar Pradesh for Friday, warning of severe to very severe heatwave conditions. The affected districts include Banda, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Fatehpur, Pratapgarh, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Bhadohi, and Jaunpur.
Orange and Yellow Alerts Across the State
Alongside the red alert, an orange alert has been issued for 34 districts, including Baghpat, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Mathura, and Agra. A yellow alert has been issued for 17 districts, such as Deoria, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Hardoi, Farrukhabad, Lucknow, Barabanki, and Ayodhya.
Temperature Predictions and Record Highs
The IMD has urged citizens to remain vigilant as intense heat conditions are expected to persist for two days. Temperatures in eastern Uttar Pradesh are likely to rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next 48 hours, while no significant change is forecast for other parts of the state during the week.
Banda recorded the highest temperature in the state, reaching 47.6 degrees Celsius. Prayagraj followed at 46.6 degrees Celsius, and Varanasi at 45.6 degrees Celsius. Lucknow recorded a maximum temperature of 43.6 degrees Celsius, which is 3.4 degrees above normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 29 degrees Celsius, 3.5 degrees above normal.
Health Advisories and Government Directives
Health advisories have been issued by both the IMD and the state government, urging people to take precautions. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed all departments to remain on alert. Health officials have been instructed to prepare for any emergencies, maintain adequate stocks of medicines and beds, and ensure round-the-clock ambulance services.
