A devastating LPG cylinder blast in Ludhiana's Jamalpur area left three members of a family with severe burn injuries early Thursday morning. The incident took place around 6:30 am in a one-room rented accommodation in Bachittar Nagar when the woman of the house turned on the gas stove to prepare tea for her husband, unaware of a gas leak.
Victims and Injuries
The injured have been identified as 40-year-old Vinod Mishra, his 37-year-old wife Reema Devi, and their son Karan. Vinod works as a gatekeeper at a local factory. The blast was so powerful that one wall of the room collapsed, and cracks appeared in other parts of the building.
Sequence of Events
According to Sub Inspector Parmodh Raj, SHO at Jamalpur police station, the family resided in a room that also housed a kitchen counter. Reema had woken up early to prepare tea for her husband. As soon as she ignited the gas, a fire erupted followed by a violent blast. The probe revealed that there was already a gas leak in the room, which lacked proper ventilation, leading to the explosion.
The couple's son was sleeping at the time of the incident. Neighbors and other residents of the building rushed out upon hearing the blast and managed to extinguish the fire. They rescued the injured family members and rushed them to a hospital.
Hospitalization and Condition
Reema Devi and her son Karan have been admitted to a private hospital near Sherpur Chowk, while Vinod Mishra is being treated at another private hospital in Sarabha Nagar. The mother and son are reported to be in critical condition, whereas Vinod's condition is comparatively stable.
Damage Assessment
The explosion completely destroyed the Mishra family's room, including all their belongings and electronic appliances. The building also sustained major structural cracks due to the impact. Locals helped by removing the LPG cylinder to prevent further damage.
The police have registered a case and are investigating the incident further. This tragic event highlights the dangers of gas leaks in poorly ventilated spaces.
