Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao announced on Monday that the state government will soon take over the operation of the 108 ambulance service to enhance emergency medical response across the state. The minister stated that the current private operator's contract is expiring, and the government has decided to run the service directly to ensure better efficiency and accountability.
Government to Manage 108 Ambulance Service
Speaking to reporters, Rao said the decision was taken after reviewing the performance of the private operator. He emphasized that the government aims to provide timely and reliable ambulance services to citizens, especially in rural areas. The transition is expected to be completed within a few months, and the government will recruit additional staff and procure new ambulances to strengthen the fleet.
Improving Emergency Response
Rao noted that the 108 ambulance service is crucial for saving lives during medical emergencies, accidents, and natural disasters. By bringing it under direct government control, the state hopes to reduce response times and improve coordination with hospitals. He also mentioned that the government will invest in training paramedics and upgrading equipment.
The minister assured that there will be no disruption in services during the transition period. The government will ensure that all existing staff are absorbed and that the service continues seamlessly. This move is part of the state's broader efforts to strengthen the public healthcare system.
