Gurgaon Student Dies by Suicide Over Online Gaming Losses

A 22-year-old BSc student in Gurgaon died by suicide at his residence in Sector 77 on Wednesday morning, using a licensed revolver belonging to his uncle, police said. The deceased was a third-year student at YMCA University and lived with his mother and younger brother at Jal Vihar Welfare Society. His father had passed away years ago. The family originally hails from Shahjahanpur village.

Incident Details

According to police, the family was present at home when the incident took place. Around 10:30 to 11:00 am, the student locked himself inside a bathroom with the revolver. Upon hearing a gunshot, his mother and brother broke open the door and found him lying in a pool of blood. Family members and neighbors rushed him to a nearby private hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way. Doctors declared him dead on arrival, after which police were informed. A team from BPTP police station reached the spot and began an investigation.

Investigation and Seizure

The revolver used in the incident was seized. The weapon belonged to the deceased's uncle, a retired Army personnel, and was kept at the residence. During the search, police recovered a suicide note from a book in his room. In the note, the deceased apologized to his mother and mentioned that he became friendly with the wrong people and developed an addiction to online gaming, leading to significant financial losses. Police sent the body for postmortem and are analyzing his phone records and financial transactions to determine the extent of losses and identify individuals he was in contact with.

An officer stated, "We have not found anything in his mobile phone yet. There is nothing suspicious in his messages. However, we will analyze if the phone was formatted previously. A detailed investigation will be undertaken, and his mobile phone will be analyzed further."
