Four Dead, 12 Hospitalized in Rajahmundry Suspected Anuria Outbreak Linked to Adulterated Milk

In a tragic incident in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, four people have died from suspected anuria, a severe medical condition characterized by the inability to urinate, while another 12 individuals are currently undergoing treatment in various hospitals. All those affected are aged above 65 years, highlighting the vulnerability of elderly populations to such health crises.

Milk Adulteration Suspected as Primary Cause

The outbreak is strongly linked to the alleged adulteration of milk supplied by a local vendor. Authorities have taken swift action by arresting a milk vendor from Narasapuram village in Korukonda mandal and seizing his unauthorised dairy unit as part of an ongoing investigation. This move aims to prevent further distribution of potentially contaminated products and to gather evidence for legal proceedings.

Extensive Testing and Investigation Underway

Officials have reported that samples have been collected from 75 families out of the 105 who received milk from the implicated vendor. Comprehensive testing is being conducted to determine the exact cause of the suspected illness and to identify any harmful substances in the milk. The results are expected to provide critical insights into the contamination and guide public health responses.

Government Response and Emergency Measures

In response to the crisis, special teams from Vijayawada have arrived in Rajahmundry to monitor the situation closely and oversee medical and preventive measures. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu conducted an emergency review meeting with officials, directing them to take immediate steps to ensure better treatment for the victims and to implement stringent safety protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Further investigation is underway to uncover the full extent of the adulteration and to hold accountable those responsible for this public health emergency. The community remains on high alert as authorities work to contain the outbreak and provide support to affected families.
