In a case of alleged medical negligence at District Bagla Hospital in Hathras, doctors plastered the wrong hand of a four-year-old boy despite an X-ray confirming a fracture on the middle finger of the other hand. The incident has sparked outrage and prompted action from district authorities.
Details of the Incident
According to the complaint, Harsh Kumar, a resident of Ahvaranpur village, injured his finger while playing at home. His family rushed him to the hospital, where staff allegedly applied plaster to his right hand instead of the left, where the fracture was confirmed. The mistake was discovered after Harsh continued crying in pain upon returning home, prompting his father, Kanhaiya Kumar, to check and lodge a complaint.
Hospital Response
Chief medical superintendent Surya Prakash acknowledged the lapse, stating, “We are in touch with the family and have asked them to return so the fractured finger can be treated. A show-cause notice has been issued to the doctor concerned.” He assured that corrective measures would be taken.
District Administration Action
District magistrate Atul Vats has directed the health department to take appropriate action against those responsible. The father expressed his anguish, saying, “This is sheer negligence. Such errors could have worsened the child’s condition.”
The incident highlights the need for stricter protocols in medical facilities to prevent such errors. The family awaits proper treatment and justice for the lapse.
