Fresh Avian Influenza Outbreak Emerges in Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor District
Just days after confirmed bird flu outbreaks in the villages of Ammagaripalli and Puttavaripalli within Sodam mandal of Annamayya district, a concerning new wave of sudden chicken fatalities has been reported from Karvetinagaram mandal in Chittoor district. This alarming development has prompted immediate action from the Andhra Pradesh animal husbandry department.
Laboratory Confirmation and Official Response
In response to the initial poultry deaths, the AP animal husbandry department swiftly collected samples from the deceased chickens. These samples were sent to the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD) in Bhopal for urgent testing on Sunday. Officials have confirmed that the poultry deaths at Ammagaripalli and Puttavaripalli were definitively caused by avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, with NIHSAD laboratory tests confirming the outbreak.
Deployment of Rapid Response and Containment Measures
To combat the spread of the disease, rapid response teams (RRTs) have been deployed to the affected locations. Large-scale culling operations have been initiated and are being rigorously supervised by the district collector. These critical operations are being carried out through coordinated efforts involving multiple departments:
