Punjab health employee body found in canal after 3-day search

Hisar: The body of a Punjab health department employee, missing since Friday evening, was recovered from the Bhakra Branch Canal in Fatehabad on Sunday following a three-day search operation involving a 32-member NDRF team from Bathinda.

The body of 52-year-old Bhupinder Singh, a health supervisor posted in Punjab's Mansa district, was recovered near Makhiwala village, several kilometres downstream from Brahmanwala village in Fatehabad's Ratia area, where his motorcycle and slippers were found abandoned along the canal bank.

Police said Bhupinder had left his mobile phone at home before going out on Friday. His family alerted the police after his motorcycle and slippers were found near the canal in Fatehabad's Ratia area, triggering fears that he had jumped into the water.

After a two-day search by police and local authorities, an NDRF team joined the operation on Sunday and recovered the body.

The deceased's family has alleged that Bhupinder was under severe mental stress due to pressure exerted by certain individuals. His son, Kapil, accused a political leader from the Budhlada area of harassing his father and claimed that complaints made by some colleagues subjected him to undue pressure at work. The family has demanded a fair and impartial investigation into the circumstances leading to his death and sought strict action against those found responsible. Bhupinder Singh is survived by his wife and two sons.
