A 37-year-old Asha worker was allegedly hacked to death by a man known to her inside her rented house in Madhya Pradesh's Panna district on Wednesday afternoon. The accused later allegedly died by suicide after consuming poison, police said.
Incident Details
The incident took place in the Pawai area of Panna district. The deceased was identified as Rajni Shukla, 37, an Asha worker posted in the Sunwani area. The accused, Surendra alias Sitaram Tiwari, was from the same village and reportedly knew her.
According to police, Surendra arrived at Rajni's rented house between 1 pm and 2 pm, when her 17-year-old daughter was also present. The accused allegedly forced the teenager out of the room and locked the door from inside. An argument reportedly broke out between the two before Surendra allegedly attacked Rajni with a sickle, inflicting multiple injuries on her neck and upper arm.
Police Response
The teenager, who remained outside, alerted police after failing to enter the room. By the time police reached the spot and opened the door, both Rajni and Surendra were found lying in a pool of blood inside the room. Police suspect Surendra consumed some tablets after the attack and died on the spot.
Investigation Underway
Police said the motive behind the murder, the nature of the relationship between the two and the reason for the dispute are yet to be established. Police are questioning family members and locals and probing the case from multiple angles.
