Andhra Pradesh to Launch Generic Veterinary Medicine Centers Across All Districts
The Andhra Pradesh state department of animal husbandry and dairy development, in close coordination with the central government, has announced an ambitious plan to establish Pashu Aushadhi Vikray Kendras (Generic Veterinary Medicine Sale Centers) across all districts of the state. This initiative falls under the comprehensive National Animal Disease Control Programme and represents a significant step toward improving animal healthcare infrastructure.
Affordable Veterinary Medicines for Livestock Farmers
Through this groundbreaking initiative, quality generic veterinary medicines will be made readily available to livestock farmers at highly affordable prices. Animal Husbandry Director T Damodar Naidu emphasized that this move aims to directly benefit farmers by reducing their financial burden associated with animal healthcare.
Damodar Naidu detailed that these centers will be strategically established through two primary channels:
- Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samriddhi Kendras (PM-KSKs)
- Cooperative societies operating across the state
Infrastructure and Operational Requirements
Each Pashu Aushadhi Vikray Kendra will require specific infrastructure standards to ensure proper functioning:
- Minimum premises area of 120 square feet, which can be either owned or rented property
- Appointment of a qualified pharmacist to manage daily operations
- Mandatory approvals from the concerned drug control authority before commencement
Centralized Medicine Management System
The Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI) will shoulder critical responsibilities for these centers, including:
- Procurement of veterinary medicines
- Rigorous quality testing procedures
- Proper storage and inventory management
- Efficient supply chain operations
Comprehensive Benefits and Incentives
This comprehensive programme aims to achieve multiple objectives that will transform animal healthcare in Andhra Pradesh:
