Amravati Receives Major Healthcare and Education Boost in District Planning Committee Meeting
In a significant development for healthcare infrastructure in Amravati, Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has approved a substantial allocation of ₹5 crore for the establishment of an indoor ward at the Super Specialty Hospital's oncology department. This crucial decision was made during the District Planning Committee (DPC) meeting held on Saturday, offering major relief to cancer patients in the region who previously had to travel long distances for specialized treatment.
MLA Sulabha Khodke's Persistent Advocacy Bears Fruit
The approval comes after persistent advocacy by MLA Sulabha Khodke, who had been pushing for improved cancer care facilities in Amravati for quite some time. Khodke emphasized the growing need for better cancer treatment infrastructure in the city, where patients often face challenges accessing specialized care without having to travel to larger medical centres in other cities.
Khodke didn't stop at healthcare improvements alone. During the same meeting, she proposed creating a new head of account in the DPC specifically for the development of municipal schools in Amravati. This strategic move aims to address the infrastructure gaps in the city's 63 municipal schools, where enrolment numbers have been steadily increasing. The dedicated funding stream would help upgrade facilities and create better learning environments for students across these educational institutions.
Comprehensive Development Agenda for Amravati
The DPC meeting, which was chaired by Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, reviewed the 2026-27 annual plan with particular focus on healthcare, education, and infrastructure development. Beyond the cancer ward approval and school infrastructure proposal, several other important issues were addressed during the comprehensive session.
MLA Khodke also raised the pressing issue of establishing a shelter for patient attendants in the Dafrin area. Recognizing the hardship faced by family members who accompany patients for treatment, Bawankule assured that funds would be allocated soon for this facility. The public works department has been directed to submit a detailed proposal for the shelter, which would provide much-needed accommodation for those supporting their loved ones during medical treatment.
In another significant announcement, Bawankule directed officials to explore setting up new anganwadi centres in Amravati, following the successful model implemented in Nagpur. This initiative aims to improve childcare services across the city, particularly for families from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The expansion of anganwadi centres would enhance early childhood education, nutrition, and healthcare services for young children in Amravati.
Commitment to Holistic Development
Throughout the meeting, Guardian Minister Bawankule reiterated his commitment to Amravati's comprehensive development, citing the Maharashtra state government's full support for the city's progress. The discussions covered multiple aspects of urban development, with Khodke highlighting various issues affecting residents and Bawankule assuring prompt action on each concern.
The ₹5 crore allocation for the cancer ward represents a major step forward in healthcare infrastructure for Amravati, while the proposed measures for education, patient support facilities, and childcare services demonstrate a holistic approach to urban development. These initiatives collectively aim to address critical gaps in public services and improve the quality of life for Amravati residents across different sectors.
