Ambulance-Truck Collision on Banda-Fatehpur Highway Claims Patient's Life, Injures Four
A devastating road accident on the Banda-Fatehpur highway in Kanpur resulted in the death of a patient and serious injuries to four others, including family members and the ambulance driver. The collision occurred around midnight on Sunday near Saimri village in the Tindwari police station area, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Details of the Tragic Incident
According to police reports, the accident took place when a truck traveling from the Fatehpur side collided head-on with a 108 ambulance. The ambulance was transporting a 58-year-old woman, identified as Usha, to Kanpur for advanced medical treatment after she was referred from the district hospital due to severe stomach pain and swelling.
Her husband, Shankar Kotary (62), and son, Ghanshyam (38), were accompanying her in the ambulance, along with the driver, Deepak, a resident of Malpura Lalganj. All four sustained serious injuries in the crash.
Emergency Response and Medical Treatment
Immediately after the collision, police rushed the victims to the Tindwari Primary Health Centre (PHC). Tragically, doctors at the PHC declared Usha dead upon arrival. The injured—Shankar Kotary, Ghanshyam, and ambulance driver Deepak—were initially treated at the PHC before being referred to the district hospital for further care due to the severity of their conditions.
Dhammu, Usha's other son and a resident of Bagehta village in the Baberu police station area, provided context, explaining that his mother had been suffering from abdominal issues, prompting the late-night journey to Kanpur for specialized medical attention.
Traffic Disruption and Police Investigation
The accident caused a significant traffic jam on the Banda-Fatehpur highway, with vehicles backed up for approximately three hours. Police worked diligently to clear the wreckage and restore normal traffic flow by removing the involved vehicles from the roadway.
Tindwari police station in-charge Sandeep Singh confirmed that a case has been registered in connection with the incident. "We have registered a case and investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the collision," Singh stated, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to uncover the circumstances leading to this fatal crash.
This tragic event underscores the critical importance of road safety, particularly for emergency vehicles like ambulances, and highlights the devastating consequences of highway accidents in rural areas.
