Telangana Forest Department Ramps Up Tiger Tracking Operations
In response to eight confirmed cattle kills attributed to a tiger across multiple regions of the state, the Telangana forest department has significantly escalated its monitoring and tracking efforts. The primary objective is to locate the big cat and prevent potential harm to both human populations and wildlife.
Special Patrols Deployed Across Four Districts
To manage the situation, special patrol teams have been strategically deployed in the districts of Siddipet, Jangaon, Karimnagar, and Yadadri. These teams are conducting intensive village-level surveillance, providing crucial safety advice to local residents, and meticulously tracking the tiger's movements. Police forces have also been mobilized to prevent public crowding in areas where the tiger has been active, ensuring both safety and operational efficiency.
Expert Assistance and Daily Updates
The operation is receiving specialized support from tiger rescue experts based in Pune, who are collaborating with local veterinary officers. Forest department officials have stated that any necessary capture efforts will be conducted strictly in accordance with the guidelines established by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).
To address the spread of unverified information, the department has committed to issuing official daily updates. The public is strongly urged to report any tiger sightings immediately through official channels and to refrain from sharing unconfirmed details on social media platforms.
Current Tiger Location and Tracking Evidence
As of the latest reports on Sunday, the tiger was confirmed to be located in and around Arepally village within Siddipet district, with observations indicating movement in a northward direction. Tracking teams successfully detected pugmarks on both Friday and Saturday, and the animal was visually sighted at several locations during this period, confirming its presence and trajectory.
High-Level Meetings and Safety Advisories
Following a high-level review meeting chaired by PCCF Dr. Suvarna (IFS), an expert committee meeting was convened on Monday under the leadership of Chief Wildlife Warden Vinay Kumar (IFS) to strategize further action plans.
Residents in the Sanigaram and Koheda mandals, along with surrounding villages, have been issued specific safety advisories:
- Remain vigilant and alert at all times.
- Avoid unnecessary travel during nighttime hours.
- Move in groups during any emergency situations.
- Ensure livestock are securely housed in sheds.
Officials have also assured that compensation will be provided to the owners of cattle killed by the tiger, addressing economic concerns within the affected communities.
