Speaking at the International Women's Day celebration held at the Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) on Tuesday, Deepa highlighted the extraordinary strength and resilience inherent in women, which she described as a foundational force for societal advancement.
Calm is Power: The Inner Strength of Women
Deepa articulated that "calm is power", emphasizing how the inner fortitude of women enables them to make remarkable contributions in their professional careers while adeptly managing responsibilities at home. She elaborated that this balance is not merely personal but has broader implications, stating "rhythm of home is the rhythm of the nation". According to Deepa, the harmony, motivation, and dedication women bring to their families play a pivotal role in driving the progress and development of the entire nation, underscoring their integral position in both domestic and national spheres.
Health and Well-being: A Cornerstone of Empowerment
The event, which brought together scientists, staff members, and students to recognize the achievements and contributions of women in science and society, also featured insights from Dr. CM Parameshwara, CEO and founder of Smiles Hospital in Bengaluru. He stressed the paramount importance of health and well-being among women, advocating for regular medical care, mental well-being, and maintaining a balanced lifestyle as essential components of empowerment. Parameshwara expressed deep concern over the persistent issue of female foeticide in India, calling for heightened awareness and greater societal responsibility to combat this practice.
Additionally, he advised caution in the consumption of antibiotics, noting that antibiotic resistance among women is becoming a growing concern in the country. While discussing food and nutrition, he introduced the innovative concept of "KYC – Know Your Consumption", encouraging individuals to be mindful of their dietary choices to foster better health outcomes.
