A tragic incident occurred in Kurukshetra on Friday morning when a 35-year-old dhaba owner was electrocuted after coming into contact with a high-tension power line. The victim, Rahul alias Bholu, was attempting to clear accumulated rainwater from the roof of his establishment on Jhansa Road when the accident happened.
Details of the Incident
Following a day of heavy rainfall and strong winds that left several areas waterlogged, Rahul went to his dhaba to address the situation. He climbed onto the roof to drain the stagnant water and accidentally touched a high-tension wire that was passing close to the canopy. Hearing his cries, nearby residents rushed to rescue him, but Rahul suffered severe electric shocks and burn injuries, dying at the scene before medical help could arrive.
Victim's Background
Rahul, a resident of Silver City on Sirsala Road, was the sole earning member of his family. He is survived by his wife, a six-year-old son, and a four-year-old daughter. The family is now left without any financial support.
Allegations of Negligence
The deceased's family has alleged gross negligence on the part of the electricity department. They claim that the high-tension line running close to the commercial property was a known safety hazard and that they had submitted repeated complaints requesting its relocation, but those complaints were ignored.
Police Response
Krishna Gate police station SHO Baljit Singh stated that the police have taken possession of the body for an autopsy. He confirmed that legal proceedings have been initiated and an investigation into the circumstances of the incident is underway. The authorities are expected to look into the family's allegations and determine if any safety regulations were violated.
