Ayushman Bharat Expands Healthcare Network to Cantonment Hospitals Across Uttar Pradesh
In a significant move to enhance healthcare accessibility, beneficiaries of the Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana in Uttar Pradesh will soon be able to receive medical treatment at all cantonment hospitals throughout the state. This expansion is part of a strategic initiative by the government to broaden the reach of the flagship health insurance scheme.
Government Agency SACHIS Leads Integration Efforts
The State Agency for Comprehensive Health and Integrated Services (SACHIS) is actively preparing to sign memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with 12 cantonment hospitals. These agreements aim to formally bring these facilities under the umbrella of the Ayushman Bharat program, ensuring that cardholders can avail of services seamlessly.
Currently, Ayushman cardholders are already benefiting from treatment at the cantonment hospital in Prayagraj. Building on this successful model, the government plans to extend the facility to additional cantonment hospitals located in key cities across Uttar Pradesh. The list includes Lucknow, Kanpur, Meerut, Bareilly, Varanasi, Ayodhya, Shahjahanpur, Mathura, Agra, Fatehpur, Jhansi, and Babina.
Enhanced Access to Specialist Care and Support Services
Dr. Pooja Yadav, Additional CEO of SACHIS, emphasized that this collaboration will significantly improve access to specialist care for patients suffering from serious and critical illnesses. She highlighted that the initiative is designed to address barriers to healthcare, particularly for those with severe conditions.
To further facilitate treatment, patients with critical diseases will be provided a free pick-and-drop facility. This service aims to ensure that transportation challenges do not hinder individuals from receiving necessary medical attention, thereby promoting equitable healthcare access across the state.
Streamlined Processes Through Digital Integration
Dr. Yadav also noted that once the MoUs are finalized, the cantonment hospitals will be integrated into the Ayushman online portal. This digital integration is expected to ensure transparent processes for treatment, billing, and claim settlement, enhancing efficiency and accountability within the healthcare system.
The expansion of Ayushman Bharat to cantonment hospitals represents a proactive step by the Uttar Pradesh government to leverage existing infrastructure for public health benefits. By incorporating these facilities, the state aims to provide comprehensive and accessible healthcare services to a larger segment of the population, particularly in urban and semi-urban areas.
This initiative aligns with the broader goals of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which seeks to offer financial protection and quality medical care to vulnerable families. The inclusion of cantonment hospitals is anticipated to bolster the state's healthcare network, offering more options for treatment and specialist consultations.
