In a move highlighting the demanding nature of Indian television, actress Veronica Talreja has decided to step away from the small screen. Best recognized for her role as Mili in the popular show Kumkum Bhagya, Talreja is now shifting her focus back to academics and family life in her hometown.
Why the Sudden Exit from Television?
The actress, who was last seen in the series Chahenge Tumhe Itna that aired from February to August 2024, cited the relentless pace of TV production as her primary reason for leaving. She expressed dissatisfaction with the unpredictable and grueling schedules that define daily soap operas.
"I didn't really enjoy the hectic shooting schedule," Veronica revealed. "Long workdays, tight deadlines, and constant logistical changes were confusing. For actors in daily shows, schedules change at the last minute, making it difficult to plan your day. Most days, you also find yourself doing nothing." She emphasized that the profession ultimately wasn't for her.
A Candid Take on the Current TV Landscape
Talreja didn't hold back while discussing the volatile state of the television industry. She pointed out the lack of job security and diminishing returns for actors despite immense hard work.
"Many shows are getting cancelled or ending abruptly," she shared. "Even if you crack a lead role on a popular channel, there's no guarantee of what you're taking back home. Actors work long hours but don't enjoy the kind of fame TV actors once did."
Sharing her personal experience, she noted working 13 hours a day for months without attaining the expected recognition. Even opportunities in OTT micro-series and vertical formats failed to spark her interest, leading to her final decision to pause her acting career.
New Chapter: Indore, Studies, and Family Time
In December 2024, Veronica Talreja made the decisive move to return to Indore. Her plan is twofold: to resume her interrupted studies and to lay the groundwork for starting her own business.
"Being home allows me to spend time with my family, which I missed while living in Mumbai," she said. Interestingly, she mentioned that good project offers started coming in the moment she decided to leave, but she chose to prioritize her parents and personal growth this time.
While she hasn't ruled out a return to entertainment completely—"Never say never"—she currently has no such plans. Apart from Kumkum Bhagya, Veronica has been part of other television shows including Deewani, Shiv Shakti – Tap Tyaag Tandav, Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, and Laal Ishq.
