Actress Nidhi Gangta is currently earning widespread praise for her layered and compelling portrayal in the popular television serial Seher Hone Ko Hai. In a recent and exclusive discussion, the actress opened up about the intricacies of her character, the emotional rollercoaster of the plot, and her refreshing perspective on playing complex roles.
The Heart of Nazima: A Journey from Love to Heartbreak
Gangta, who plays the character of Nazima, describes her role with raw honesty. "I am just playing a girl who is hurt in love," she stated, capturing the essence of her part. She elaborated on her character's background, explaining that Nazima is the granddaughter of both Usman and Mukti, and her story is deeply woven into the central drama of the show.
The foundation of Nazima's narrative is a long-standing, profound love. "She loves Mahesh, played by Parth Samthaan. She has loved him since childhood because they grew up together. She can do anything for Mahesh," Gangta revealed. However, this unrequited affection forms the core of her turmoil. The actress shared the pivotal moment when Nazima's world shatters: "When she proposes to Mahesh and tells him her feelings, she learns that he doesn't love her, he doesn't care about her."
Embracing Complexity: No Fear of the 'Grey' Label
This devastating rejection triggers a significant transformation in Nazima. "So, when her heart breaks, there is a switch in the character," Gangta explained. "Now, my character hates Seher because she is going to marry Mahesh. For me, Seher is like taking my place in the Mukti family." This pain becomes the driving force for her subsequent actions, with Gangta noting, "Now, I will do things that will bring problems in her life."
When questioned about the potential of being stereotyped for playing a character with negative shades, Nidhi Gangta presented a clear and confident viewpoint. "I don't think that. Even if you do a negative grey shade, people will love you if you do it with honesty," she asserted. She consciously avoids labeling Nazima as simply 'grey'.
"I am just thinking from a girl's perspective. She is hurt, she loves someone, and she is just fighting for her love. This is her story," the actress reasoned. "She believes in love so much that she is hurting. I think it's just a character that I would love to play."
The Path to the Role: A Swift Audition and Directorial Guidance
Gangta also shed light on her preparation process, crediting the director for helping the cast get into the required mindset. "I have no inspiration. The director just puts all of us in a state of mind where you imagine the situation. You will obviously have some hatred. That is how we are shaping this character," she said, emphasizing her focus on authentic performance over analysis.
The opportunity for the role came to her swiftly. Recalling the casting process, she said, "I got the script and the casting director called me and asked if I was interested. He said I had to come in one hour to audition. I went, and within two hours, they confirmed me." This fast-tracked audition led her to join the cast of Seher Hone Ko Hai, which also features actors like Mahhi Vij and Apoorva Agnihotri.
Through her candid insights, Nidhi Gangta offers a compelling look into the craft of building a resonant television character, proving that depth and honesty resonate far more with audiences than simplistic labels.
