Munawar Faruqui Breaks Silence on Pranit More's Controversial Clip
Munawar Faruqui, the winner of Bigg Boss 17, has finally reacted to a viral clip from Pranit More's recent crowd-work show. Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Munawar shared his thoughts, sparking widespread reactions from celebrities and fans alike.
In his post, Munawar wrote, "Stop calling it a comedy show." This statement came after a controversial clip surfaced where Pranit More appeared to laugh off an inappropriate comment from an audience member. The post quickly garnered thousands of comments, with users expressing mixed opinions.
One user commented, "But as long as Samay Raina, the king of this style of cool comedy, keeps getting appreciation, admiration, respect, and money, this will continue, in some form or another. Because there’s a reason people think saying stuff like this on a public platform is cool because it makes you Varun Dhawan’s neighbour." Another added, "Actually, it’s not comedy and not cool at all."
Several other celebrities also weighed in on the controversy. Elvish Yadav took a dig at the situation, saying, "Rs 370 ki biryani ne do cheezein expose kar di: Ek aadmi ko laga consent ka MRP hota hai. Aur ek comedian ko laga har uncomfortable silence ko laughter track se bachaya ja sakta hai. Biryani toh dum pe bani thi, controversy ego pe." Rashami Desai also reacted on her social media, though her exact words were not immediately available.
In response to the backlash, Pranit More has deactivated his Instagram account. Prior to this, he had issued an apology note on his social media platforms. In his note, he wrote, "I understand the criticism regarding a recent crowd-work clip. The comments made by the audience member do not reflect my views. Looking back, I should have challenged the remark instead of laughing and moving on. That was a lapse in judgment on my part. Live crowd-work often involves reacting in real time, but that’s not an excuse. I take the feedback seriously and will be more thoughtful in how I handle similar situations going forward."
He further added, "We’ve also removed the video from all our platforms, as I don’t want to amplify or normalize those views. I appreciate everyone who raised their concerns respectfully. I sincerely apologize for whatever happened, and I’ll take this lesson forward. I’m human, and like anyone else, I’m constantly learning. Being called out when I get something wrong doesn’t make me smaller but helps me grow. I accept that I could have handled this better, and I’ll be more mindful never to unintentionally support or normalize such views in the future."
While many have slammed Pranit for his handling of the situation, some have called for an end to the trolling. The incident has sparked a broader conversation about the boundaries of comedy and the responsibility of comedians in live settings.
