Sudhanshu Pandey Renews Push for National Awards Platform for Indian Television
Actor Sudhanshu Pandey has reignited his campaign advocating for the creation of a dedicated National Awards platform specifically for Indian television. The initiative, which began in 2021, aims to formally recognize the immense contributions of television professionals who have long been overlooked by existing national award structures.
Origins of the Campaign During Pandemic Production
The seed for this movement was planted while Pandey was working on the popular television show Anupamaa during the COVID-19 pandemic. "I started this campaign in 2021 when I became part of my first daily soap," explains Pandey, who currently portrays Baldev Singh in Do Duniya Ek Dil. "We were working through COVID and shot for two months in a bio-bubble, and that's when I really understood the scale of work that goes into television."
Witnessing the enormous effort behind constant entertainment generation made him question why television lacked national recognition. "Watching that made me wonder why the government has not created a national platform to recognise and reward people from television," he states.
Research Reveals Television's Dominant Position
After initial discussions with colleagues, Pandey and his team conducted extensive research into the television sector. Their findings revealed compelling data about the industry's significance. "While researching what television has become today, how it has progressed and its standing in terms of revenue generation, I realised that it is the largest industry in the entertainment business and generates the highest revenue, including across regional languages," Pandey shares. "It also creates employment."
These discoveries strengthened his conviction that television deserves formal national acknowledgment. "It's already very late," he emphasizes. "A national-level platform for this industry should have existed much earlier."
Campaign Development and Current Progress
To formalize his advocacy, Pandey launched the National Awards for Indian Television campaign along with a dedicated hashtag to amplify the message. Although professional commitments temporarily slowed the initiative, groundwork continued behind the scenes.
"Because of a busy schedule, the campaign had to go on the back burner for some time, but I believe it is the right moment to revive it and take it forward," Pandey explains. He has now resumed active engagement with policymakers. "I am speaking to government officials and have had a few meetings in Delhi. The process is underway."
The actor's renewed efforts come at a time when television continues to demonstrate remarkable resilience and growth, particularly through challenging periods like the pandemic. His campaign highlights not just artistic merit but also the economic and social impact of an industry that reaches millions of households daily across linguistic and regional boundaries.
