What does a Marathi pop culture festival truly look like? Last weekend, residents of Pune received a definitive answer through the spectacular Rada 2026 event. Organized by the innovative collective BhaDiPa, this gathering successfully united popular creators, musicians, and celebrities under one dynamic roof, creating an unforgettable cultural experience.
Blazing New Paths in Regional Entertainment
Paula McGlynn, co-founder of BhaDiPa, explained the driving philosophy behind their endeavors. "I think we have been pretty good at blazing new paths. Maybe because we're brave or maybe because we're stupid. We just like doing things that haven't been done before and that's what drives us." This bold approach was evident throughout the festival's diverse programming.
One Stage, Multiple Artistic Expressions
The festival delivered an impressive array of performances across its two-day run:
- A nostalgic reunion of the original Casting Couch trio featuring Amey Wagh, Nipun Dharmadhikari, and Sarang Sathaye

From Humble Beginnings to Massive Turnout
Sarang Sathaye, co-founder of BhaDiPa and a prominent stand-up comedian, reflected on their journey. "We began with an audience of just 50. To see such a big turnout at an event just makes us all feel grateful and more encouraged." The festival successfully drew thousands of enthusiastic youngsters to the venue, demonstrating the growing appetite for regional pop culture experiences.
Reviving Marathi Poetry for New Generations
Content creators Shubham Jadhav and Neel Salekar (performing as Garditle Dardi) presented a special set of Marathi poems that ranged from humorous to deeply emotional. While Shubham performed his original compositions, Neel recited beloved Marathi classics, offering audiences accustomed to their online comedy skits a surprising and delightful shift.
Shubham Jadhav explained their motivation: "Everyone goes through love and heartbreak at some point in their lives. There are some fantastic literary works in Marathi encompassing these emotions but many Gen Zers are unaware of them. We took this opportunity to try and change that."
Neel Salekar added his perspective: "Many times, when I post a poem by a well-known Marathi poet, people assume I've written it. That made me realise how little people know about Marathi poetry today. I wanted to change that, and this was a perfect platform for that."
Celebrating Regional Identity and Innovation
Nipun Dharmadhikari, filmmaker and actor, shared insights about the Casting Couch origins: "We honestly started casting couch as an experiment. We were wondering if we can turn the sheer amount of timepass that we did in college into something more. Being able to do something with Amey and Sarang was the best part for me."
Amey Wagh expressed his appreciation for the festival's cultural significance: "What I loved about the festival is that it brought regional pop culture to the fore. It was refreshing and I think, a start of something new."
Cross-Cultural Appeal and Lasting Impact
The festival's appeal extended beyond Marathi-speaking audiences. Tanisha Chanda, a designer originally from Kolkata, shared her experience: "I am originally from Kolkata, but I was here for the vibes and the fest did not disappoint! I was introduced to Marathi pop-culture recently and to experience its impact live was something I won't forget."
Rada 2026 successfully created a vibrant space where rap, comedy, poetry, and music converged, offering a comprehensive "vibe-check" of contemporary Marathi pop culture. The event demonstrated how regional entertainment can captivate diverse audiences while preserving and promoting linguistic and cultural heritage.
