Angelina Jolie's 'Couture' India OTT Release Date Confirmed

Angelina Jolie's highly anticipated fashion drama 'Couture' has finally received its India OTT release date. The film will premiere exclusively on Lionsgate Play on May 15, bringing the glitz and grit of Paris Fashion Week to Indian audiences.

Plot and Characters

Set against the backdrop of Paris Fashion Week, 'Couture' weaves together the lives of three women from vastly different backgrounds. Jolie portrays Maxine, an American filmmaker working on a major fashion project while grappling with a deeply personal health crisis. The narrative also follows Ada, a young South Sudanese model played by Anyier Anei, who is seeking her breakthrough in the competitive fashion world. Angèle, portrayed by Garance Marillier, is a makeup artist striving to carve her own identity beyond the shadows of the backstage.

The film also features Louis Garrel and Ella Rumpf in pivotal roles. Directed by Alice Winocour, the story delves beyond the runway to explore the unseen efforts and private struggles of those who shape the fashion industry from behind the scenes. Themes of ambition, illness, identity, and the silent burdens carried by women in a high-pressure environment are central to the narrative.

Director's Vision

Alice Winocour shared her inspiration for the film, stating, "What interested me was less what we see of fashion than what is behind the scenes and its appearances. I wanted to closely observe the making of images, the work, to tell what is hidden behind the representations of the feminine, those that we see spread out all over the city. So I immersed myself for a year behind the scenes of fashion shows, while writing the script. I met makeup artists, seamstresses, the little hands of fashion week, but also models, away from the catwalks, between two shows, in their privacy."

Winocour also explained the significance of the title 'Couture': "Coutures is an ensemble film built around three characters, Maxine, Ada and Angèle. There was the desire to sew the destiny of these three women, who come from different worlds, to assemble pieces of lives. Coutures in French means stitches." She elaborated on the film's visual approach, saying, "I wanted the seams of the film to create echoes, rhymes and counterpoints, with shots that respond to each other as if in a round. The title also gives direction to the form and aesthetic intentions of the film, which presents itself as a collage where the seams are visible, playing on sudden changes of universe and ruptures in sound."

Behind the Scenes

The director described the quiet bond between the three protagonists: "Everyone has something to repair, to resolve in order to move forward. There is an almost invisible solidarity between them." She added that Maxine, Angèle, and Ada share a connection forged by chance and hardship. While Paris Fashion Week serves as the film's setting, the story remains firmly focused on ambition, illness, identity, and the quiet strength shared by women under pressure.
