The Assamese music community is preparing for a major gathering to pay homage to the legendary Zubeen Garg. A grand public tribute is scheduled to take place in Guwahati, bringing together fans and fellow artists to celebrate the life and work of the iconic singer.
A Musical Homage to an Icon
This significant event will be held on November 19 at Chandmari Field in Guwahati. The date holds double significance as it marks both Zubeen Garg's birthday and the two-month anniversary of his untimely passing. Organized by a collective of musicians under the banner of 'Kantha Shilpi Asom', the program aims to celebrate the artist's vast and versatile legacy through musical performances.
Anupam Saikia, a member of the organizing committee, expressed the emotional significance of the occasion. "We will be organizing this event on Nov 19 at Chandmari Field to commemorate an artist we have lost," Saikia stated. "Though it is a sad day for us, we want to come together to keep his memory alive by singing his songs."
Open Invitation and Preparations
The organizers have emphasized that the event will be completely free of charge and open to everyone. Saikia specifically requested that no one should ask for tickets or demand money from visitors attending the event. This ensures that all fans, regardless of their financial situation, can participate in honoring their beloved musical hero.
Preparations for the tribute are already underway, with rehearsals taking place at the Jyoti Chitrabon film studio. The organizers have extended invitations to Assamese artists residing in different parts of India, ensuring wide participation from across the musical community.
Celebrating a Musical Legacy
The tribute program will feature leading Assamese singers and cultural figures performing some of Zubeen's most beloved compositions. The musical journey will span his entire career, from nostalgic 90s hits that defined a generation to festival favorites that united people through song. This diverse selection will showcase the incredible range and enduring appeal of Zubeen Garg's musical contributions.
The event represents more than just a memorial service—it's a celebration of the profound impact Zubeen Garg had on Assamese culture and music. By bringing people together through his songs, the organizers hope to keep his spirit alive and ensure that future generations continue to appreciate his artistic genius.
