The contrasting attitudes of Bollywood personalities towards the ever-present paparazzi have sparked a fresh conversation. Veteran actress Jaya Bachchan's sharp criticism of photographers has drawn a nuanced response from Sunita Ahuja, the wife of actor Govinda, who advocates for a more cheerful approach to public life.
Jaya Bachchan's Stern Rebuke of Paparazzi Culture
In a recent interview with senior journalist Barkha Dutt, Jaya Bachchan expressed strong disapproval of certain paparazzi behaviour. She questioned their professionalism and background, specifically targeting those she described as wearing "tight pants" and holding mobile phones. "They think just because they have a mobile, they can take your picture and say what they want," the actress stated, highlighting her frustration with invasive tactics and disrespectful comments.
This is not the first time Bachchan has publicly distanced herself from photographers. Her remarks at a recent event, where she openly questioned their conduct, further cemented her stance against what she perceives as a growing invasion of privacy and a lack of boundaries.
Sunita Ahuja's Philosophy: A Life Lived with a Smile
Addressing the topic in a Q&A session on her latest vlog, Sunita Ahuja was asked by a fan about her typically friendly demeanour with photographers, which often includes distributing sweets, in stark contrast to Jaya Bachchan's reprimands. Sunita Ahuja chose not to directly criticise Bachchan but explained her own outlook.
"Look, everyone has their own thoughts and thinking. Jaya ma’am must be getting irritated. I can’t say anything about her. She is a very big [personality]. She must not like it. So, if she doesn’t like it, then paps shouldn't do it," Ahuja said, showing respect for the senior actress's position.
She then elaborated on her personal approach to life and public interactions. "I have a lot of fun with everyone. I feel like I should get up in the morning and start having fun because there is nothing in life. There is only one life," she expressed. Emphasising the preciousness of human life, she added, "You should live your life with a smile. There is no point in fighting... In the end, we all have to go up. So, live your life with a smile."
Respect Amidst Differing Perspectives
Despite their divergent approaches to handling media attention, Sunita Ahuja made sure to convey her deep respect for Jaya Bachchan. "I love Jaya ji a lot and I will always love her," she affirmed, separating her personal affection from the difference in their public personas.
This exchange underscores the ongoing debate within the Indian film industry about celebrity privacy, media ethics, and the right to personal space. While one veteran advocates for stern boundaries, another promotes joyful engagement, presenting two valid responses to the constant scrutiny of Bollywood life.
