Subhash Ghai Confirms 'Taal 2' Script is Almost Complete
Subhash Ghai: 'Taal 2' Script Nearly Ready

Filmmaker Subhash Ghai has reignited excitement around a possible sequel to 'Taal', the 1999 musical romantic drama that remains a cult favourite. The original film, written, produced, edited, and directed by Ghai, featured Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Akshaye Khanna, and Anil Kapoor in lead roles, with Amrish Puri and Alok Nath in supporting parts.

Script Near Completion

In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Ghai confirmed that the script for 'Taal 2' is almost complete. He shared, "I have been facing this question for 15 years, 'When are you going to make Taal again?' The energy of Taal is so powerful that even today's Gen-Z is asking me to make it. But the easier the subject seems, the more difficult it is in reality. We have almost completed the entire script, and now we are thinking that this might be the right time, maybe we should make it. In order to make it, purity is very important."

Importance of Casting

Ghai reflected on the original film's success, highlighting the crucial role of casting. "If you remember, Akshaye Khanna and Aishwarya Rai were new in the industry when Taal was made. That is why that purity came across on screen. Anil Kapoor was a star and he was shown as a star in the film as well. After writing a good script, the main responsibility is casting. The only reason my films didn't work was wrong casting."

The director praised the film 'Saiyaara', noting its fresh faces and energy. When asked about casting for 'Taal 2', he stated, "Ahaan Panday aur Aneet Padda ab star ban chuke hain. Par Taal 2 mein characters naye lagne chahiye. It is the need of the character."

Earlier, Ghai shared a reflective post on social media hinting at his thoughts on revisiting the story: "PEACE OR PASSION? COSMIC OR COSMETIC? INNER OR OUTER? Is the story of 'TAAL' - a film i dared to make. With no villain. No sex. No violence. Is story even GenZ n alpha love it today. N become a memorable. Can we make TAAL 2? Today Is a question in my mind."

As discussions continue, the team is considering the right time to move forward with the project, ensuring that the sequel maintains the purity and emotional connection that made the original a timeless classic.
