A pregnant woman traveling on a Mumbai-bound train delivered a baby girl on board and was moved to a hospital through a multi-agency operation at Nashik Road railway station on Monday.
Incident Details
The incident occurred at 5:30 am on June 15 when sub-inspector Dilip Kumar was supervising the departure of the Rajgir-LTT Janata Express from platform four. Passengers Radheshyam and his wife Heena alerted the authorities about a woman who had given birth inside the toilet of the rear general coach and was stranded without assistance.
Operation Matrushakti
The Railway Protection Force, under its initiative 'Operation Matrushakti', immediately mobilized resources. They notified deputy station superintendent Ashwani Harry and emergency medical room staff Raju Yadav. The authorities requested Heena to stay with the woman inside the coach while an ambulance was arranged.
The 25-year-old mother, a resident of Akola, was heading to Mumbai when she went into labor minutes before the train arrived at Nashik Road station. She had no means of communication with her family. The railway administration contacted her husband, who said he would travel to Nashik by road.
Medical Assistance
To ensure immediate medical care, a combined team comprising RPF personnel Sandeep Khatna, Sujit Yadav, and Shankar Yadav, along with Maharashtra Security Force staff Rahul Patil and co-passengers, carefully shifted the mother and newborn into an ambulance. They were taken to Bitco Hospital in Nashik Road for clinical examination, with constable Shankar Yadav accompanying them for security.
