In a significant development from Hollywood, acclaimed actress Nicole Kidman and celebrated country music singer Keith Urban have officially finalised their divorce. This legal step brings a formal end to their marriage, which lasted for nearly two decades.
Court Approves Divorce Agreement
The divorce proceedings, which were initiated by Kidman in September of last year on the grounds of "irreconcilable differences", reached a conclusion in court on Tuesday, January 7. According to documents obtained by People magazine, the former couple has entered into a mutually agreed settlement.
Both Kidman and Urban have chosen to waive all rights to child and spousal support. Furthermore, each party will be responsible for covering their own legal fees and related expenses incurred during the process.
Custody Arrangements and Co-Parenting Pledge
The court order places a strong emphasis on the well-being of their two daughters, Sunday Rose (17) and Faith Margaret (14). The parents are legally bound to foster a positive environment for their children. The documents mandate that they must "behave with each other and each child so as to provide a loving, stable, consistent and nurturing relationship with the child, even though they are divorced."
A key clause prohibits them from speaking negatively about each other or the other parent's family. They are also required to encourage their daughters to maintain a loving bond with both parents. Regarding physical custody, the children will primarily reside with their mother, Nicole Kidman, for 306 days of the year. Keith Urban has been allotted parenting time to spend "every other weekend" with them.
The Road to Separation
Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, often seen as one of Hollywood's enduring couples, tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony back in 2006. Reports of their separation first emerged in September last year, indicating they had been living apart "since the beginning of summer."
At that time, sources revealed that Keith Urban had moved out of their family home and acquired his own residence in Nashville. It was also reported that Kidman, known for her role in 'Days of Thunder', was taking care of the children and was not initially in favour of the separation, hoping to save the marriage.
An interesting detail that surfaced before the split was made public was Kidman's application for residency in Portugal, a form on which Urban's name was notably absent. The couple was last photographed together publicly in June 2024 at a FIFA Club World Cup 2025 game in Nashville. Interestingly, that same month, Kidman marked what would be their 19th wedding anniversary.
The finalisation of this divorce closes a major chapter for both stars, who have pledged to navigate their future as dedicated co-parents to their teenage daughters.
