The court has not only ruled in her favour but has also awarded the 'Roar' singer a substantial sum in damages, bringing a decisive end to the case.

In a significant development in May 2024, the court officially ruled in favour of Katy Perry, putting an end to the legal feud that began in 2020. The judge awarded Perry damages totalling $1,842,142.84. This amount is notably half of the $4,718,698.95 that the singer had initially sought from the court.
The legal conflict centred on an eight-bedroom, eleven-bathroom luxury home in the exclusive Montecito area, a neighbourhood known for housing celebrities like Oprah Winfrey and Meghan Markle. Perry had purchased the property from Carl Westcott almost five years ago for a total of $15 million. According to the court's findings, Perry's business manager paid $9 million to Westcott at the time, with the remainder of $6 million held back. From this remaining amount, the awarded $1.8 million will be subtracted.
The Root of the Controversy: Why the Lawsuit Began
The case was initiated after Carl Westcott, a disabled veteran, attempted to back out of the sale agreement after allegedly promising to sell the property to Katy Perry. Westcott's defence claimed that he was incapacitated when he signed the contract, stating he was under the influence of strong painkillers and did not genuinely intend to sell his home to the pop star.
However, the court dismissed these claims, stating that the evidence showed Westcott was of sound mind and fully aware of the commitments he was making at the time of the sale. The ruling cited that his claims of incapacity were unfounded.
