Ranchi: The court of Additional Judicial Commissioner Arvind Kumar 2 on Friday sentenced a former principal of a private school to three years in jail and imposed fines totaling Rs 35,000 under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) after finding him guilty of sexual harassment.
The court had on Thursday convicted the former principal under sections 354 B (assault or use of criminal force to disrobe a woman), 354 D (stalking), 354 (assault or criminal force with intent to outrage modesty), 354 A (sexual harassment), and 509 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC. The convict was sentenced to three years each under sections 354 B and 354 D and fined Rs 10,000 under each of these sections. All sentences are to run concurrently. Additionally, the court awarded two and a half years of imprisonment and fines of Rs 5,000 each under sections 354, 354 A, and 509. The court ordered that the fine amount collected from the convict be given to the victim.
The case was registered against the convict at a local police station on May 24, 2022, by a woman who worked as a nurse at the school. She alleged that he frequently called her to his chamber under the pretext of measuring his blood pressure and engaged in obscene behavior. The accused was arrested on May 29 from Jamshedpur.
