His agent, Scott Marshall Partners, announced his demise on Friday, adding that the late star is survived by his wife Anna Calder-Marshall and son Tom Burke. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed by the family.

Born on May 15, 1934, David Burke became a celebrated actor with his unmatched skills. He began his distinguished career at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and later starred in the production of King Lear at the National Theatre, alongside Ian Holm, who is known for his role in The Lord of the Rings. With an abundance of talent, Burke was featured in the cherished series Midsomer Murders, one of the longest-running shows on television.
In the 1980s, Burke starred as Dr. Watson in the first season of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, alongside Jeremy Brett in the titular role. He was soon replaced by the late Edward Hardwicke. Burke's extensive body of work includes roles in Reilly, Ace of Spies, The Woman in Black, The Rivals, Bertie and Elizabeth, The Man Who Saw Tomorrow, and many more. According to The Times newspaper, Burke reportedly felt 'terribly guilty' for leaving his wife and son alone while filming for the Sherlock Holmes series in Manchester, which led him to decline the opportunity to star in the second season.
