NBA legend Stephen Curry and his wife, Ayesha Curry, alongside billionaire investor Warren Buffett, have successfully raised $9 million through a charity auction to support their foundation, Eat. Learn. Play. The auction, which concluded on Thursday after a week on eBay, saw an anonymous bidder agree to pay the hefty sum for the opportunity to dine with the high-profile trio.
The winner, whose identity has not been disclosed, will join Warren Buffett, Stephen Curry, and Ayesha Curry, along with seven guests of their choice, on June 24 in Omaha, Nebraska. The funds raised will directly benefit the Eat. Learn. Play. foundation, which has been dedicated to improving the lives of underprivileged children and families in Oakland for nearly a decade.
Foundation's Mission and Impact
Founded by Stephen and Ayesha Curry, Eat. Learn. Play. focuses on providing nutritious food, quality education, and safe play spaces for children in Oakland. The foundation has already made a significant impact, and the recent auction proceeds will further its mission. In addition to the $9 million raised from the dinner auction, Stephen Curry has been auctioning off sneakers he wore during NBA games, with proceeds also going to the foundation.
Earlier this year, Curry ended his long-term partnership with Under Armour and began auctioning his game-worn sneakers. The sneaker auction has already generated over $1.7 million, with bids from nearly 30 countries. The foundation shared on social media, “400 bidders, nearly 30 countries, 2,350 bids, and every single dollar going directly to Eat. Learn. Play., resulting in more healthy meals, books, literacy support, safe places to play, and youth sports for tens of thousands of kids across Oakland.”
Continued Commitment to Community
Neither Stephen nor Ayesha Curry has publicly commented on the latest auction results, but their dedication to philanthropy remains evident. The couple has consistently used their platform to support charitable causes, with Eat. Learn. Play. being a central focus. The foundation has transformed lives in Oakland over the past several years, and the recent fundraising efforts underscore their ongoing commitment to giving back to the community.
As the Golden State Warriors star continues his NBA career, his off-court efforts through the foundation demonstrate a lasting legacy beyond basketball. The $9 million raised alongside Warren Buffett marks a significant milestone in their charitable endeavors, ensuring that thousands of children in Oakland will continue to benefit from the foundation's programs.
