In a heart-wrenching revelation, Bollywood actor Celina Jaitly has shared the profound emotional turmoil her family has endured for the past year, as her brother, a retired official of the Indian Army, remains detained in the United Arab Emirates over national security concerns.
A Sister's Emotional Plea on Social Media
Taking to social media, Celina Jaitly penned a deeply emotional note dedicated to her brother, Major (Retired) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly. She expressed her unwavering support and the immense personal pain his absence has caused. Her post, accompanied by a childhood photograph, read, "My Dumpy, I hope you're ok, I hope you know I'm standing with you like a rock, I hope you know I haven't slept a single night without crying for you."
The actor further wrote that she would give up everything for him and that she has left no stone unturned in her efforts to secure his well-being and return. She ended her poignant message with a plea for divine kindness and the words, "waiting for you."
The Case of Major Vikrant Jaitly: Facts and Timeline
According to reports from the PTI news agency, Major (Retd.) Vikrant Jaitly has been living in the UAE since 2016. At the time of his detention, he was employed with the MATITI Group, a company involved in trading, consultancy, and risk management services.
He has reportedly been held in the Gulf nation for a year. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has officially confirmed India's involvement in the case. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, "We are in touch with UAE authorities. Our embassy is seized of the matter. We have been making consular visits to him, and we have done so on four occasions."
Jaiswal assured that the Indian government is offering all possible assistance to the retired officer, as it does for any Indian national in need of support abroad.
Legal Intervention and Broader Concerns
With her brother's detention stretching on, Celina Jaitly sought legal recourse in India. She approached the Delhi High Court, seeking effective legal and medical assistance for her brother.
The court responded by directing the concerned authorities to take steps to provide Major Vikrant with proper legal representation. The High Court also ordered the recruitment of a nodal officer to regularly ascertain the status of the retired Major's case.
Speaking to ANI after the court's judgment, Celina Jaitly described the past year as a "nightmare." She expressed gratitude for the court's order, which she believes will help in bringing her brother back. She also raised a significant concern, stating, "As India is rising and becoming bigger and bigger in the international diaspora, our soldiers are becoming targets overseas over and over again."
This case highlights the complex challenges faced by Indian citizens, particularly those with military backgrounds, in foreign nations and the ongoing diplomatic and legal efforts required to resolve such sensitive matters.
