Rumours of actor Darshan's suicide attempt triggered tension around Parappana Agrahara prison in Bengaluru on Monday. The actor, who is currently lodged in the central jail in connection with a murder case, was reported to have attempted suicide, leading to a gathering of fans and media outside the prison premises.
Clarification by DGP Prisons
Director General of Police (Prisons) Alok Kumar issued a clarification, stating that the rumours are completely false. He urged the public not to believe such unverified claims and said, "No one should come near the central jail believing such rumours." He further added that the actor is safe and there is no truth to the speculation.
Security Measures Intensified
Following the rumours, security around the prison was tightened. Additional police personnel were deployed to manage the crowd and prevent any untoward incidents. The prison authorities have also launched an inquiry to trace the origin of the rumours.
Darshan was arrested earlier this year and has been in judicial custody. His legal team has also denied any such incident, calling the rumours malicious and intended to disrupt peace.
The incident highlights the challenges faced by prison authorities in handling high-profile inmates and the rapid spread of misinformation on social media. Authorities have appealed to the public to rely only on official sources for information.
