Karthi's Vaa Vaathiyaar Sees Tepid Opening at Box Office
Karthi's latest film Vaa Vaathiyaar hit theatres this Pongal season. Fans eagerly awaited his return to the big screen. However, the film opened to a lukewarm response on its first day.
Day 1 Collection and Occupancy Details
According to box office tracking platform Sacnilk, Vaa Vaathiyaar minted approximately Rs 1.5 crore on Wednesday. The film recorded an overall Tamil occupancy of 21.41% across India.
Occupancy varied throughout the day:
- Morning shows: 15.30%
- Afternoon shows: 22.49%
- Evening shows: 19.82%
- Night shows: 28.02%
Night shows attracted the highest audience turnout. The modest numbers reflect the intense competition from other major releases.
Stiff Competition from Other Pongal Releases
Vaa Vaathiyaar faces a crowded marketplace. Several big-ticket films released around the Pongal festival. Prabhas's The Raja Saab has already earned Rs 124.65 crore in six days. Chiranjeevi and Nayanthara's Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu collected Rs 79.60 crore in three days. Sivakarthikeyan's Parasakthi garnered Rs 30.58 crore over five days.
The film also avoided a clash with Vijay's Jana Nayagan. That film faced delays in Central Board of Film Certification clearance. Its release date remains uncertain. Producers have approached the Supreme Court for a hearing on January 15.
Cast and Crew of Vaa Vaathiyaar
Karthi stars in the lead role alongside Krithi Shetty. The supporting cast includes Sathyaraj, Rajkiran, Anandaraj, and Shilpa Manjunath. Karunakaran, G. M. Sundar, Ramesh Thilak, Nivas Adithan, and P. L. Thenappan also feature in pivotal roles.
Nalan Kumarasamy wrote and directed the film. K. E. Gnanavel Raja produced it under the Studio Green banner. Santhosh Narayanan composed the music. George C. Williams handled cinematography. Vetre Krishnan served as the editor.
The Pongal box office battle continues. Vaa Vaathiyaar will need strong word-of-mouth to improve its collections in the coming days. Audience reception during the holiday weekend will be crucial for its overall performance.
