Comedian and actor Kapil Sharma has announced a fresh theatrical run for his film Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 in January 2026. This decision comes after the film's initial box office performance was severely impacted by the overwhelming dominance of Ranveer Singh's blockbuster spy thriller, Dhurandhar.
The Dhurandhar Wave and Multiplex Takeovers
Released on December 5, Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar took the box office by storm with one of the widest releases of the year. Riding on phenomenal word-of-mouth, the film has stormed into the Rs 1000 crore club and continues its strong run even in its third week. This unprecedented success led to a massive allocation of screens and showtimes for Dhurandhar, squeezing out other concurrent releases.
Kapil Sharma's team, in an official statement, directly pointed to this screen crunch. They stated that while Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 opened to positive responses, its theatrical run was "impacted by limited screen availability due to ongoing multiplex takeovers by other releases." The film, which hit theatres on December 12, found itself competing in a severely restricted market space.
Box Office Numbers and Re-Release Plan
The sequel to the 2015 hit managed to earn approximately Rs 12 crore over its two-week run. This is a stark contrast to the first film's lifetime collection of around Rs 49 crore. Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 opened with Rs 1.85 crores on its first day and had minted about Rs 11.9 crores by its second Monday, as per industry tracker Sacnilk.
Given the circumstances, producer Ratan Jain has decided to give the film another chance. The official statement highlighted that the film managed to entertain audiences with its light-hearted comedy despite limited screens. "Keeping the ongoing excitement of the fans in mind," the statement read, the team will re-release the film in January 2026. The exact release date is yet to be announced.
Challenges Await in a Competitive January
The planned re-release in January 2026 will not be without its own set of challenges. The month is already packed with anticipated releases such as Ikkis, Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos, The RajaSaab, Jana Nayagan, and Border 2. This means the film will need a strategic release plan to secure adequate screen space and audience attention the second time around.
Directed by Anukalp Goswami and produced by Abbas-Mustan, Ganesh Jain, and Ratan Jain, Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 also features Manjot Singh, Hira Warina, Tridha Choudhary, Parul Gulati, and Ayesha Khan. The plot once again sees Kapil Sharma's character juggling multiple marriages, promising the same brand of situational humour.
This move underscores the high-stakes nature of box office clashes in Bollywood, where a mega-blockbuster like Dhurandhar can significantly alter the fate of smaller and mid-sized releases, prompting unique strategies like a re-release to achieve commercial goals.
