Why Vivek Oberoi Missed Out on Om Shanti Om

Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi, known for his intense performances in films ranging from his powerful debut in 'Company' to his romantic role in 'Saathiya', recently opened up about a major career decision that surprised many fans. In an old interview that has resurfaced, the actor revealed he was offered the villain's role in Farah Khan's blockbuster film 'Om Shanti Om' but had to turn it down.

The Clash of Dates and Negative Roles

Vivek Oberoi disclosed that he had to refuse the role of Mukesh Mehra in 'Om Shanti Om', a character that eventually went to Arjun Rampal and became quite memorable. The primary reason for his decision was a scheduling conflict with another project he was already committed to - Apoorva Lakhia's 'Shootout at Lokhandwala'.

In his conversation with MensXP, Vivek explained the practical dilemma he faced. "Because the dates were also clashing and both were negative roles. I liked my role (in Shootout at Lokhandwala). Moreover, when Farah contacted me for the role, I had already started doing my full research for the character," the actor shared.

Both films required him to portray negative characters, and he had already begun extensive preparation for his role in the gangster drama 'Shootout at Lokhandwala'. This deep involvement with one project made it difficult to take on another similar role simultaneously.

What Could Have Been: Working with Farah and Shah Rukh

The actor made it clear that his decision was purely practical rather than based on preference. He expressed genuine regret about missing the opportunity to work with director Farah Khan and superstar Shah Rukh Khan.

"If it was a different situation, I would have said yes. Why not? If I had the time to do both, I would have wanted to do Om Shanti Om. Farah has made a wonderful film. Working with Shah bhai is always amazing," Vivek stated emphatically.

This revelation shows that under different circumstances, fans might have seen Vivek Oberoi as the antagonist in one of Bollywood's most celebrated films rather than Arjun Rampal.

About the Iconic Film Om Shanti Om

Directed by Farah Khan, 'Om Shanti Om' became a massive success featuring Shah Rukh Khan, debutant Deepika Padukone, and Arjun Rampal as the main antagonist. The film beautifully blended elements of reincarnation, nostalgia, music, and Bollywood glamour, creating an unforgettable cinematic experience.

The film received an impressive 13 nominations at the 53rd Filmfare Awards, with Deepika Padukone winning Best Female Debut and the film taking home the award for Best Special Effects. It remains a beloved classic among Bollywood enthusiasts to this day.

Vivek Oberoi's career, meanwhile, continued with various notable performances, though this revelation makes one wonder how different both his career trajectory and the film itself might have been with his involvement.
