Ram Gopal Varma Calls Out Bollywood's 'Loud Silence' on Dhurandhar's Historic Box Office Run
Aditya Dhar's blockbuster film Dhurandhar: The Revenge is not just rewriting box office records but also sparking a fiery debate within the Indian film industry. The Ranveer Singh-led action thriller has crossed a staggering Rs 1,200 crore worldwide, even surpassing the lifetime collections of the global phenomenon RRR. Despite this phenomenal achievement, veteran filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma is now calling out what he describes as a "loud silence" from industry peers regarding the film's unprecedented success.
Varma's Explosive Social Media Critique
Taking to social media platform X, Ram Gopal Varma didn't hold back in his criticism. "Now that @AdityaDharFilms has EXPLODED an ATOMIC BOMB right under the film industry, what is shocking is the loud silence from the rest of the film industry," Varma wrote, directly questioning why more voices haven't openly celebrated the achievement.
Varma speculated on several possible reasons behind the muted reaction. "I don't know whether this is because the #Dhurandhar2's devastating explosion has hurled everyone else in the film industry so far into OUTER SPACE that their applause cannot reach here... OR whether they're huddled in denial, whispering to each other, 'It's just propaganda... it will go away soon,'" he elaborated in his post.
Warning Against Ignoring the 'Dinosaur'
The filmmaker issued a stark warning to the industry about ignoring the film's impact. Calling Dhurandhar: The Revenge a "DINOSAUR," Varma wrote, "Isn't it extremely unwise to ignore a DINOSAUR like #Dhurandhar2... BREATHING FIRE into your eyes with its BOX OFFICE ROAR?"
Varma further suggested that some industry members might be "paralyzed by the film's sheer brilliance, realizing that whatever they've been making... cannot measure up." He urged the industry to take the film seriously, concluding with, "My sincere advice... is to please take #Dhurandhar2 deadly seriously and study it... OR risk being buried forever in the graveyard of pre-March 19, 2026 cinema."
Contrasting Industry Reactions
While Varma pointed out the lack of widespread public celebration from the industry, it's important to note that several prominent figures have praised the film. Big names including Rajinikanth, SS Rajamouli, Priyadarshan, Mahesh Babu, Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Vijay Deverakonda, Karan Johar, and Alia Bhatt have all publicly appreciated the film and Ranveer Singh's powerful performance. However, Varma's critique highlights that this recognition hasn't translated into the kind of industry-wide celebration one might expect for such a historic achievement.
The Film's Phenomenal Success and Story
Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar: The Revenge follows the gripping journey of Jaskirat Singh Rangi, who transforms into Indian spy Hamza Ali Mazari while navigating the dangerous nexus of politics and the underworld. The film features an ensemble cast including Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi, and Sara Arjun in key supporting roles.
The box office numbers tell an extraordinary story. With over Rs 846 crore net in India alone, the film continues to dominate theaters across the country and internationally. This commercial success has not only established new benchmarks for Indian cinema but has also created a conversation that the industry can no longer ignore.
As Dhurandhar: The Revenge continues its record-breaking run, Ram Gopal Varma's pointed questions about industry recognition and celebration have added a new dimension to the film's legacy. Whether the industry will respond with louder applause or maintain its current stance remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: this cinematic phenomenon has changed the landscape of Indian box office expectations forever.
