Major Drug Bust in Valasaravakkam: Actress and Assistant Director Among Eight Arrested

In a significant crackdown on narcotics activity, the Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit South team executed a swift operation in Valasaravakkam on Thursday, resulting in the arrest of eight individuals. The high-profile arrests included Tamil actress Anju Krishna and assistant director Vincy Nivetha, sending shockwaves through the local entertainment industry.

Police Action Following Tip-Off

Acting on a credible tip-off, the ANIU South team launched an intensive surveillance operation in the Valasaravakkam area. The police moved with remarkable speed and precision, apprehending all suspects involved in the alleged drug distribution network. According to official reports, the authorities discovered methamphetamine and ganja in the possession of the arrested group.

All eight individuals were immediately taken into custody and processed for further legal proceedings, marking a substantial victory for anti-narcotics efforts in the region.

How the Investigation Unfolded

The breakthrough in the case came when Inspector Johnny Chellappa of the ANIU South team apprehended 33-year-old Vigneshwaran from Nesapakkam. During interrogation, Vigneshwaran revealed that he had obtained the drugs from 31-year-old Venkatesh Kumar, a resident of Kovur near Porur.

Armed with this crucial information, the police devised a strategic plan. They deployed an undercover officer posing as a customer to arrange a meeting with Venkatesh Kumar. When Kumar's vehicle approached a prominent landmark in Valasaravakkam, the police intercepted and searched the car, leading to the simultaneous arrest of Kumar and several associates who were either inside or in the immediate vicinity of the vehicle.

Substantial Evidence Seized

The thorough search of the vehicle and individuals yielded significant evidence. Police confiscated:

  • Six grams of methamphetamine
  • Seven grams of high-quality OG ganja
  • Fifteen grams of regular ganja
  • A smoking bong
  • A stamp
  • Nine mobile phones

All seized items and the arrested individuals were subsequently transferred to the Valasaravakkam police station for formal processing. The case was presented before a magistrate court, which ordered all eight accused to be placed in judicial custody pending further investigation.

Entertainment Industry Connections

The arrest of assistant director Vincy Nivetha highlights the concerning intersection between the film industry and alleged narcotics activity. Police confirmed that Nivetha was present with the group at the time of the arrest, raising questions about drug culture in certain entertainment circles.

Actress Anju Krishna, while not a household name, has established a respectable career in South Indian cinema. She appeared in the Tamil film 'Vellimalai' directed by Om Vijay and has featured in several Malayalam productions including 'Aaro' and 'Akasham Kadann'.

In 'Aaro', which was directed by Kareem with screenplay by Kareem and Rasheed Parakkal, Anju Krishna played a significant supporting role alongside lead actor Joju George. Her involvement in this drug case represents a dramatic fall from her on-screen persona.

The investigation continues as authorities work to determine the full extent of the drug network and identify any additional connections within the entertainment industry or broader community.
