On February 16, Rao directly addressed the speculation surrounding his transformed look through an Instagram post. The National Award-winning actor revealed that his current appearance results from intentional physical changes required for his upcoming biopic about prominent public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam.
"My being is through my Art," Rao declared in his social media statement. "Just finished shooting for my next Biopic #NIKAM and yes, it has demanded me to change physically which I love doing."
The actor emphasized his preference for authentic physical transformation over prosthetic enhancements, stating: "I'm not a believer in prosthetics as long as I can achieve the look through my hard work which I've achieved in Nikam."
Intense Diet and Weight Gain Strategy Revealed
Rao provided specific details about the physical demands of his Nikam role, explaining he needed to gain approximately 9-10 kilograms for the character portrayal. His unconventional diet regimen included:
- Consuming two pizzas daily
- Eating substantial quantities of sweets
- Regularly enjoying his favorite foods including Aloo Parathas and Biryani
"For Nikam I had to gain around 9-10 kgs and I was eating 2 pizzas and a lot of sweets and my fav Aloo Parathas, Biryani and to not use anything glam to look like the part," the actor elaborated.
Transition Phase and Upcoming Sourav Ganguly Biopic
With the Nikam biopic filming completed, Rao has entered what he describes as a "transition phase" where he must shed the extra weight to prepare for his next challenging role. The actor confirmed he will soon begin work on a biopic about former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly.
"And now it's the transition phase and time to lose these extra kgs and get ready to slip into Ganguly mode. Our very own Dada," Rao announced, referring to Ganguly's popular nickname in cricket circles.
