Director Prem Files Formal Complaint Against Producer Kanakapura Srinivas
In a significant development within the Kannada film industry, director Prem has lodged a formal complaint with the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce against senior producer Kanakapura Srinivas. The complaint centers around alleged derogatory comments made by Srinivas at a recent film event, sparking controversy and drawing attention from across the entertainment sector.
Allegations of Disrespectful Remarks About Film Personalities
Prem has accused the producer of making highly offensive comments about multiple respected figures in the Kannada film industry. According to the director's complaint, Srinivas made hurtful remarks about director AP Arjun, popular actor Darshan, several other producers, and even the late beloved actor Puneeth Rajkumar, who was affectionately known as Appu by fans and colleagues alike.
"He has spoken disrespectfully about several people, including AP Arjun, Appu (Puneeth Rajkumar), Darshan and me," Prem stated clearly during his media interaction. The director emphasized that the comments crossed professional boundaries and showed disregard for basic respect within the film community.
Prem Recounts Past Professional Association with Srinivas
Providing background to their relationship, Prem detailed his professional association with Kanakapura Srinivas that began in 2004. According to the director's account, Srinivas approached him through mutual contact KP Sreekanth with a film project offer. Prem was reportedly given an advance payment of Rs 9 lakh to direct the proposed film.
The director explained that he invested significant time and resources into the project, opening a dedicated office, hiring a production team, and developing the script. However, Prem alleges that despite repeated attempts to contact Srinivas for further discussions and payments, he received no response from the producer.
"Nearly one year of hard work went to waste," Prem lamented, adding that he had to bear office rent and team salaries from his own pocket since no additional funds were provided by Srinivas. The director also claimed he turned down other film offers during this period due to his commitment to this project.
Prem Questions Producer's Credibility and Professional Conduct
Speaking to media representatives, Prem explained that he was compelled to take action due to the nature of Srinivas's recent comments. The director specifically mentioned that the producer had spoken disrespectfully about mothers, which Prem found particularly objectionable.
"To question my capability, he must first have the credibility himself. One must speak responsibly," Prem asserted, challenging the producer's right to criticize others' professional abilities given their past business dealings.
Prem emphasized his belief in resolving industry disputes through proper channels and platforms, specifically mentioning the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce as the appropriate forum for addressing such matters professionally.
Formal Complaints Filed with Multiple Authorities
The director confirmed that he has taken the matter to both law enforcement and industry regulatory bodies. Prem revealed that he had already approached the police before submitting his formal complaint to the Film Chamber. He subsequently met with Film Chamber president Jayamala to explain the situation in detail.
Currently, the issue is being examined by both the police authorities and the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, indicating the seriousness with which the allegations are being treated by industry regulators.
Producer Issues Counterstatement and Challenge
Meanwhile, Kanakapura Srinivas has released a counterstatement in response to Prem's allegations. The producer has challenged Prem to meet him directly to discuss the matter, stating that he is prepared to face the director and address the controversy head-on.
The dispute originated after Srinivas allegedly made abusive comments about numerous Kannada film personalities while speaking on stage at a film industry event. The incident has sparked widespread discussion within the regional film community about professional conduct and respect among industry members.
The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, as the primary regulatory body for the Kannada film industry, is expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. Industry observers are watching closely as this case could set important precedents for how such disputes are handled within the regional entertainment sector.
